New Year, New Postal Rates

Written by Suzi Oswald, Postal Specialist | Dec 19, 2022 5:22:00 PM

As we enter the new year, we’ll once again see rate increases from the U.S. Postal Service. Regular price adjustments help the USPS keep up with inflation and operational demands.

Here are a few highlights from this year’s price adjustments, set to begin January 22, 2023.

First-Class Mail

    • Stamps for retail letters are now 63.0¢
    • Automated letters increased 1.6¢
    • Automation flats increased 13.4¢

Standard/Marketing Mail

    • Automation letters increased 0.9¢-1.1¢
    • Automation flats increased 4.2¢

While we can’t prevent the rates from going up, we can definitely help you get the most out of your postage. Beyond stocking up on those “forever” stamps for all your home mailings, here are a couple questions to ask:

Is letter-size mail an option? It’s important to look at the design of your mail pieces. While creating eye-catching direct mail is always a great idea, there are instances where a simple letter-size self-mailer might work. Given flat mail pieces will have a significant price increase in January, choosing letter-size mail could save you quite a bit.

Could a digital touchpoint complement my campaign? QR codes, email, interactive sites or text messaging can help your direct mail get more bang for its buck.
